Job introduction

St John the Baptist is a one form entry school with approximately 200 pupils on roll. We pride ourselves on our positive and inclusive, approach. We have a vacancy for a Teaching Assistant/Individual Needs Assistants (Level B) in our Nest (SEND room).  The role also involves lunchtime supervision (see separate job description).

Hours:  

9hrs 50minutes per week, 2 days a week Teaching Assistant (TA)

1hrs 40 minutes per week,   2 days a week Midday Supervisor

Pay Scale:

NJC Scale 10  TA       £27694   (pro rata 47.36 weeks)-Actual £6703.37

NJC Scale 8    Midday Supervisor £26824 (pro rata 43.89 weeks) Actual £1019.84

Paid weeks per year47.36  (inclusive of holiday entitlement)

Fixed term: This appointment will be on a fixed term contract initially until August 2026 

Start date: 3 November 2025

About the role

We are looking for candidates who have the NVQ 2 Teaching Assistant’s qualification and /or recent experience of working in a primary school or nursery school. The successful candidate will be fully committed to supporting the Catholic ethos of our school.  They will also: 

  • Be enthusiastic and passionate about supporting children’s learning.
  • Have some experience of working with children with special needs including autism
  • Have excellent communication skills and a calm and patient approach
  • Be keen to work with others as part of a team
  • Have excellent time-management and organisational skills
  • Be flexible as may be required to undertake Individual Needs Assistant tasks as directed.
